Who you’re actually hiring
WolfDen Networks is me, Sam LaMartina, plus help when a job needs it. That’s the whole company, and it’s deliberate.
Most of the networks I get called into were fine the day they went in. They grew a device at a time, every addition sensible on its own, and somewhere along the way the whole thing stopped being something anyone could explain. Then whoever set it up moved on, and every change since has been a small excavation.
That’s most of what I fix. The equipment is usually fine. What’s missing is any record of how it fits together.
So I do the boring parts properly. I walk the building before I quote. I label both ends of every cable. I hand over diagrams and an addressing plan whether or not anyone asks for them. It doesn’t cost much during an install and it saves days later.
I’m not tied to a manufacturer. I install whatever the job needs and whatever you want, and I’ll tell you honestly when the cheaper option is fine.
Being one person means I take fewer jobs at once. It also means the person who surveyed your site is the person who answers when you call about something strange two years later.

These are why a quote sometimes comes in higher than the other one you got, and why you probably won't be calling someone else next year.
Look before quoting
Nobody can price a cabling job over the phone. We come out, take photos, and find the things that drive cost before there's a number on paper.
Write everything down
Diagrams, addressing, cable schedules, what's in which port. If you hire someone else in three years they should be able to pick it up without calling me.
Say when you need less
Quotes get smaller after a walkthrough fairly often. Selling you a tier you'll never use is a bad way to get called back.
One party for the whole path
Cable, hardware, configuration, support. Nobody gets to say the problem belongs to a different contractor, because there isn't one.
Build it to be handed over
Labeled ports, patch panels, service loops, names that make sense. Costs the same during the install and saves days later.
Answer the phone
You get someone who already knows your building rather than a queue asking you to describe your setup from the start.
